LAHORE, Aug 15: The Lahore District and Sessions Judge on Friday summoned the SSPs of operation and investigation branches for Aug 19 on a contempt of court application.

Liaquatabad police station SHO Rashid Amin Butt, DSP Haq Nawaz, SIs Agha Iqbal and Abid Khichi and Constable Muhammad Shafiq were booked for firing shots in the air on the court premises two months ago after a clash with lawyers.

The police and lawyers had a clash on the issue of handcuffing two accused lawyers Khalid Malik and Ashraf as the latter claimed that the court had granted them bail and they could not be handcuffed any more. The two lawyers were produced in the court on charges of attacking a police party which had raided their house.

An application was moved against the two SSPs on contempt charges on the grounds that the accused had not been arrested despite court orders.

The complainant submitted that the police high ups were trying to save their subordinates.

The court observed that it would also like to be informed about the progress made by the police with regard to the investigation of this case. The court also summoned entire record of the case.

On the last date of hearing, the court was informed on behalf of the SSP (operation) that he had already taken a disciplinary action against the accused by suspending them from their service while their arrest was beyond his jurisdiction.
