LAHORE, Aug 10: Fancied dark-bay colt, Puma King, stormed home to win the feature event run over 1000m during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Sunday.

He beat Prince Of Peace easily by three lengths to live up to his status of 50 to 100 favouritism. Puma Star finished third another three lengths further behind while Extra Heat completed the frame among nine runners.

Piloted by jockey A. Aziz Puma King is trained by Sohail Aziz.

A race earlier another fancied colt Copper Fields completed a hat-trick of victories when he lifted the supporting event run over the identical distance of 1000m.

 This was Copper Fields’ third victory in-a-row when earlier he had won on July 13 and July 20.

Leading all the way home Copper Fields, a colt from He Man out-of-Social Queen, dictated the pace and proved too classy for the rest.

Backed at 40 to 100 down to 20 to 100 Copper Fields beat Birju by three-and-a-half lengths. Morning Noor and Las Pal Mas completed the board in a small field of six runners.

The best performance of the day came from rank outsider Much Pleasure who won the second race. Off to a fine start Much Pleasure broke away from the pack right from the start and had the race won halfway, in the end holding on from fancied Papa Jan by eight lengths. Silver Baby came rushing from behind to occupy the third spot while Jan-i-Ghazal completed the frame.

Jockey A. Aziz excelled in the saddle by bringing in a brace of winners. He romped home Copper Fields in the fifth and supporting event and then followed it up with a grand victory on Puma King in the sixth and supporting event. He was lucky to get the ride of Puma King shortly before the start of the race. He replaced Rehman Ali, who was declared to ride Puma King under the orders of the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards at the starting gates at the last-minute. He justified his selection coasting home Puma King ahead of the field. A card of six events was decided in the afternoon. All races were contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres.
