Action to be taken against terrorists, says FO
ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: The government on Saturday promised action if it was provided any information that the perpetrators of the car bombing in Jakarta were trained in Pakistan.
“If the Indonesian government has any lead on the training of the terrorists, they should share it with us so that we can further intensify our action,” Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said.
He was commenting on a report quoting Indonesian Defence Minister Matori Abdul Djalil’s claim that the terrorists were trained with Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
“Pakistan had taken a series of strong and effective measures against Al Qaeda,” he said.
He said: “Pakistan had not received any communication from the Indonesian government ... and the news report did not specify the time period in which such training was given by Al Qaeda.”
“Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Pakistan strongly condemns the terrorist attack at Jakarta’s Marriott Hotel,” he said.
Terming it a “gruesome attack” which killed innocent civilians, the spokesman said: “We have conveyed our sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families of the victims as well as the people and government of Indonesia.”—APP
