KARACHI, Aug 9: Metallurgical Construction Corporation (MCC) of China has shown its keen interest in carrying out expansion of Pakistan Steel aimed at taking its production up to three million tons per annum.
This was stated by Industries and Production Minister, Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi after meeting the MCC Chairman, Yang Changheng, who along with a delegation of experts met the minister at the PIDC House on Saturday.
Jatoi Expressed the hope that the MCC would provide latest technology and expertise in the Pakistan Steel’s expansion at a minimum possible cost, says a press release.
He said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has already been signed with Russia for expansion of production from 1.1 to 1.5 million tons. However, Pakistan Steel has not restrained other potential sources to carry out diagnostic study and suggest most economical solutions for expansion programmes. He said that a suggestion in this regard could also be sought from MCC.
Yang Changheng said that China was not only in a position to carry out expansion plan in most economical manner but it was also capable of transferring the latest technology.
