German champion tests positive

FRANKFURT (Germany), Aug 8: The German Boxing Federation (BDB) confirmed on Friday that German heavyweight champion Willi Fischer had tested positive for cannabis.

The 30-year-old Fischer failed the random drugs test after successfully defeating compatriot Andreas Sidon to become German heavyweight champion on June 14.

The German boxer, who was banned for a year after testing positive for Furosemide in November 2000, must now wait on the results of a second test to see if he can clear his name.—AFP
