ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: The government of Japan has provided assistance worth $260,000 in order to facilitate Pakistan‘s relief efforts in rain-hit provinces of Sindh and Balochistan.

On Aug 4, 2003 the Japanese government provided assitance worth $160,000 in the form of tents, mattresses, water purifiers, water tanks, electric generators and some other items.

Japan‘s Ambassador to Pakistan Minoru Shibuya visited the Foreign Office on Friday and exchanged notes for provision of additional $100,000 in cash, thus bringing the total Japanese assistance to $ 260,000, a press release issued by the ministry of foreign affairs said.

The government of Pakistan has conveyed its deep appreciation and gratitude to the people and the government of Japan for their gesture of solidarity and goodwill. Masood Khan, Director General (East Asia Pacific) received the Japanese ambassador at the Foreign Office and thanked him.

On the occasion the ambassador said the assistance was extended to provide relief to the victims of torrential rains and floods in Sindh and Balochistan.
