TOKYO, Aug 8: Japan’s private sector machinery orders in June rose 2.4 per cent from May after rising 6.5 per cent the previous month, the government said on Friday.

On a year-on-year basis, private sector orders rose 12.1 per cent in June after a 12.2 per cent gain in May, the Cabinet Office said.

Private-sector machinery orders, seen as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending six to nine months ahead, were seen rising 2.2 per cent in the July-September quarter from the previous three months.

Orders at manufacturers in June fell 0.8 per cent month-on-month after a gain of 15.9 per cent the previous month, the Cabinet Office said. —AFP
