Income tax

BEIRUT, Aug 8: Lebanon is considering scrapping personal income tax, along with a host of other charges and making up the revenue shortfall by raising value-added tax, the government said on Friday.

Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri made the proposal late on Thursday at a meeting with Lebanon’s Economic and Social Council, an official consultative body, a statement from his office said.

It said the proposal would also involve scrapping duties on developed property and transportation, as well as registration fees for state-funded schools and universities, and small businesses.—Reuters
