ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: Safeerullah Khan and Khalid Atlas checked into the under-19 semifinals of the CAS National Junior Squash Championship on Thursday with straight games victories over their rivals.
Playing at the Hashim Khan Complex in Peshawar, PAF’s Safeer did not have to put in much of an effort in knocking out Maqbali Khan 9-2, 9-3, 9-2 but Khalid, of Army had to go through a tough first game in his quarterfinal against Basit Ashfaq before scoring a 9-7, 9-0, 9-3 victory.
Others advancing to the last four were Yasir Butt of Punjab who brushed aside PAF’s Naveed Nasir 9-1, 9-3, 9-1 and Shah Nawaz of Mari Gas who managed a 9-3, 4-9, 9-4, 9-6 win over Balochistan’s Rizwan Ahmed.
In the under-17 age bracket there was no stopping PAF’s Farhan Mahboob as he stormed into the semifinals with a 9-1, 9-0, 9-1 rout of Punjab’s Muhammad Waseem. It was also an easy day for another PAF player Bilal Zaman who crushed Army’s Majeed Hussain 9-3, 9-1, 9-1.
Adil Atlas, also of PAF scored a 3-2 win over Haider Jamal of Punjab to book a semifinal berth as did Aqib Hanif who beat Farzan Rashid 10-8, 9-1, 9-1.
Waqar Ahmed, Zahir Shah, Alam Zeb Jnr and Amir Atlas, all of PAF, won their respective quarterfinals in straight games in the under-15 competition.
Similarly PAF players dominated the under-13 event, three of the semifinal slots going to their players Waqar Mahmoob, Waqas Mahboob and Danish Atlas. The fourth place went to Shoaib Hassan of Punjab.
