KARACHI: UCs seek release of frozen accounts

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 7: Nazims of 13 union councils of Orangi Town have made a passionate appeal to the authorities to release the town’s accounts which had been frozen some eight months back.

In a joint appeal to the governor, chief minister and city Nazim, the signatories of the appeal have drawn their attention to the aggravating situation in the town for want of development work which had been suspended following the freezing of the accounts.

They pointed out that due to the suspension of work, under the cover of inquiry, had rendered all the main roads, streets and highways in the town unmotorable.

Even ambulance attending emergencies could not have access to most of the localities which could result in a tragedy, they added.

“Sewage has turned may streets into pools which has increased the risk of epidemics breaking out in the town,” they said adding that millions of rupees, drawn from the accounts for the purpose of emergency work had been spent by the town administration without any positive result.”

The UC Nazims said despite the passage of three days since the launching of the 10-day cleanliness drive, the town administration had not yet chalked out even the strategy in this regard.

They appealed to the governor, chief minister and the city Nazim to help restore the fundamental rights of the people of Orangi Town and ensure provision of special funds to resolve their problems. They also called for release of funds to enable the UCs resume development work immediately.

Those who have signed the appeal are Izharul Haque, Hashmat Khan, Rehan Khan, Sultan Pervez, Raees Ahmad Kazmi, Dr Shakeel Ahmad, Aftab Ahmad Danish, Shafi Ahmad, Shahnaz Perveen, Qari Ahmad Hussain and Mohammad Jumman Darwan.

PUMPING STATION: A delegation, led by the Nazim of UC-9, Shahnaz Perveen, called on the Chief Secretary and drew his attention to the suspended work on the installation of the pumping station at Urdu Chowk, Shahrah-i-Orangi, and the under-construction drain in Benazir Colony.

Dr Qazi assured the delegation all possible help in getting the problems resolved.
