KARACHI, Aug 6: Jockey Barani stole the riding honours when he rode home a brace of winners at the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting held on Wednesday at the Karachi Racecourse, after a two week lull due to the monsoon rains that lashed the city.

Barani got his first winner, when he piloted home the dark bay colt Visitor, beating the raging favourite Sovero by a big margin of 6 1/4 lengths in the fifth race of the afternoon.

Then partnering Miss Oozi in the very next event, Barani completed his double, after the bay mare beat the crowd fancy Flying Bird. Snake Eyed finished third and top weight Mischievous completed the frame.

But the day’s best race was witnessed in the concluding event, when the four-year-old bay colt Wonder Thunder with young M. Nasir in the saddle, came in with a flying burst to collar the two speedy front runners Guarantee and Edging Ahead, covering the five furlong journey in a smart time of one minute 4 3/5 sec., much to the delight of owner-trainer M. Yaqoob.

Bye Bye with Zahoor Ahmed astride won the opening race from Silver City, with Much Better pushing Super Boy into the fourth spot.

Khalid Nawaz taking over the reins of the bay colt Your Opinion at the starting gate, rode a fine race, beating the raging favourite Thousand Up by three lengths, with Tom Cruise edging out the heavily backed Waqas Aiya for the third place in the next event.

Jockey Muzaffar Hussain was once again among the winners, when he guided home the bay gelding Just In Fun to a rousing victory over Royal Beauty, after Little Sunny tried runaway tactics in the third.

In the following event, the bay colt Power Plus ridden by Jockey Shahzad, tired of finishing second best in is last two outings, picked up the spoils after registering a comfortable triumph over Love Land.

The next race meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Aug 10.
