HYDERABAD, Aug 6: Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan has said that the apex court has lost its status of being a constitutional judiciary.

He was addressing members of the high court and district bar associations at the Hyderabad District Bar Association office here on Wednesday.

Mr Khan came hard on the judiciary and the military in his speech as he levelled serious allegations against both the institutions.

He said that he did not waste his breath before the tribunals which were neither independent nor autonomous.

He deplored that the military rulers were trying to militarize the entire system of Pakistan as all vital institutions were headed by the serving generals, including sports organizations, although the generals had nothing to do with the games of hockey or cricket.

He said that the lawyers wanted to protect the judiciary so that instead of becoming a part of military government, it should provide justice and relief to the people.

Describing the Legal Framework Order the result of an unconstitutional decision, he said that the president wanted to remain president unconstitutionally in spite of the fact there was no room for a military or a civilian bureaucrat to become president.

Ruling out any compromise on the National Security Council and extension in retirement age of judges, he added that the lawyers rejected the new contempt of court laws and they would keep exposing the judiciary.

He observed that the military rulers and their partners could be tried under article six of Constitution.

He said that both would have to account for what they had done to the democracy and the masses.
