PESHAWAR: JUI slams Centre for delay in talks

PESHAWAR, Aug 6: Provincial executive council of Jamiat Ulema- i-Islam (JUI) has accused the federal government of using delaying tactics to sabotage negotiations on controversial Legal Framework Order (LFO).

The party, however, hailed negotiations between the government and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) over the ordinance and asked the government to table the proposed constitutional package in parliament forthwith.

According to a JUI spokesman, Abdul Jalil Jan, the executive council met here on Wednesday to discuss current political situation and party’s internal affairs. He said the JUI believed in true democracy and supremacy of parliament.

The meeting expressed concern over the delay in negotiations between the government and MMA, saying that some elements were making conspiracies to create political deadlock.

He said the MMA was sincere to hold a meaningful dialogue with the government over the LFO, but the government was deliberately delaying it.—Bureau
