KARACHI: Two MQM activists shot dead

KARACHI, Aug 6: Two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were gunned down in separate incidents here on Wednesday.

Police said Mohammad Adil Khan, 35, was standing at Mehran Bakery near People’s Chowrangi when unidentified persons opened fire on him. Adil suffered a bullet wound in the head and died on the spot. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

Resident of KBR Society, Adil Khan was a former sector in-charge of the area.

Police suspected that the assailants were on a motorcycle.

A large number of party activist reached the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital upon hearing the news of his death.

The second Muttahida Qaumi Movement activist was shot dead in Nazimabad.

Police said Mohammad Abid Ansari, 35, was sitting at a shop near Gol Market in Nazimabad when two persons riding a motorcycle came to the shop.

One of them entered the shop and opened fire on Abid Ansari. Later both the attackers fled.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said Abid Ansari was a member of the sector committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Tension griped the Gol Market area after the incident.

STABBED: A young man was stabbed to death by his cousin in Sukkan on Wednesday.

Police said Mohammad Afzal, 25, was stabbed to death by Saifullah when he tried to intervene in a dispute between Saif and his mother.

Police said Saifullah was demanding money from his mother when Afzal intervened. An enraged Saifullah stabbed Afzal who later died due to profuse bleeding.

Saifullah escaped after the attack, police added.

Body of the victim was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead by unknown people in Gulbahar late Tuesday night.

Police said Junaid Iqbal, 30, was sitting at his pharmacy shop in Firdous Colony on Tuesday night when unknown men riding on a motorcycle came and shot him in the head and chest.

The victim died on the spot. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination.

Police said the victim had received training at a camp in Afghanistan.

ACCIDENT: A 12-year-old boy died in a road traffic accident at Super Highway on Wednesday.

Police said the boy was knocked down by an unknown vehicle near Sajjad hotel. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

ROBBERY: A National Savings Centre branch was robbed of Rs846,000 by four policemen in Dastagir on Wednesday.

According to reports, six armed persons — four in police uniform and two in plainclothes — barged into the National Savings Centre branch in Dastagir. They held centre’s staff and other people hostage at gunpoint, collected Rs846,000 in cash, savings certificates worth millions of rupees and fled.

Branch manager Mohammad Zamir has lodged an FIR 119/2003 at the Joharabad police station in this regard.
