Dhaka-Agartala bus service pact ratified

By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, Aug 5: Bangladesh on Monday ratified an agreement to begin a bus service between Dhaka and Agartala, capital of India’s north-eastern state of Tripura.

The decision to start the bus service was taken at a meeting of the Indo-Bangla Joint Economic Commission (JEC), led by Bangladesh Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan and India’s External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha last month.

“ In line with the JEC agreement, the government gave its approval within the first week of August”, Mr Morshed Khan told the press on Monday. “The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and the Tripura Road Transport Authority can now fix a date to commission the service.”
