ISLAMABAD, Aug 5: Saqib Zia and Aurangzeb, both of PAF qualified for the main round of the CAS National Junior Squash Championship in Peshawar on Tuesday with contrasting victories in the under-19 category.

While Aurangzeb knocked out Punjab’s Waseem Gul in straight games 9-6, 9-7, 9-4, Saqib was extended to four by another PAF player Shah Room before winning 7-9, 9-4, 10-8, 9-7.

Saqib will now play Punjab’s Yasir Butt in the main round of the championship starting on Wednesday while Aurangzeb will take on Shah Nawaz.

Also going through to the main round were Punjab’s Muhammad Naveed who beat Ali Liaquat in a tough five-game match 9-1, 9-7, 3-9, 5-9, 9-8 and NWFP’s Sajid Khan, a 6-9, 9-2, 9-4, 9-0 winner against PAF’s Shahid Khan.

In the under-17 age group, Rehmanullah, Khurrum Shahzad and Muhammad Naeem were the qualifiers as all three scored straight games victories over their rivals. But it was Yasir Sarwar who was made to sweat by a fighting Enyatullah of NWFP before scoring a 9-5, 9-5, 7-9, 2-9, 9-3 win.

The under-15 category saw Shahzad Khan, Waseem Khan and Adnan Khan, all from Punjab and Intikhab Alam of PAF advancing to the main round. On the other hand Waqas Mehboob, Owais Khan, Zubair Khan and Farhan Zaman earned qualification from the under-13 age group.
