Training in trauma case handling

LAHORE, Aug 5: The Punjab government is considering to introduce legislation for the compulsory training of doctors, paramedics and ambulance drivers in handling of trauma cases.

Besides re-allocation of health department’s budget for the establishment of trauma centres, the Punjab government is also negotiating with the federal government to get more funds for the purpose.

This was stated by Punjab Minister for Health Dr Tahir Ali Javed on Tuesday while presiding over a meeting at the Mayo Hospital.

He said the Punjab government was also taking measures to train the ambulance crew, traffic and motorway police and paramedics, involved in transporting patients to hospitals.

He stressed that the doctors working in sophisticated emergency department of high tech hospitals and those working in remote areas of the country must equally be trained to provide better emergency services to injured.

The minister said that trauma was now recognized to be the leading cause of death all over the world among people below the age of 40. It had also been recognized that most of the trauma victims die because of preventable causes.
