KARACHI, Aug 5: Sindh Minister for Population Welfare Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh has emphasized that higher education in the country must be linked with the formation and development of character and acquisition of knowledge.

“Higher education in the modern world must emphasize upon dispensation of training in a large number of specialities and for overwhelming number of students,” he said.

The minister was speaking at the 10th convocation ceremony of Preston Institute of Management, Science and Technology, on Tuesday.

Some 425 students were conferred certificates and gold medals at the convocation for their accomplishments in various subjects.

The minister said, “As the society progresses, the number of people acquiring quality education also increases.”

In the field of education, three tasks should be the foremost objective for planners, he said and added that the range of courses must be extended; increasing number of students must be provided education; and the quality of education must be maintained and improved.

Referring to the government efforts towards proliferation of Information Technology, the minister pointed out that the government was making concerted endeavours to bring about an IT revolution in the country. This, he said, would ultimately herald massive job opportunities, increase software exports and strengthening national economy.

“The government would continue providing succour to private institutions to give more affordable educational infrastructure for the nation building,” he added.

While felicitating the passing out graduates for their hard work, he reminded them that this achievement was not an end, as most of the passing out students were now stepping into the their practical life.
