ISLAMABAD, Aug 2: A senior official of the foreign office said on Saturday that the contents of the statement about the funding for the 9/11 terrorist attacks had not been communicated to Pakistan by the US government.
In response to a question about a reported statement by a US official that the funding for the 9/11 attacks had been traced to Al Qaeda accounts in Pakistan, the official said: “The contents of the statement have not been communicated to Pakistan by the US government.”
The official added that under the pre-9/11 international monetary transfer system, terrorist funding had moved from place to place and its trail had been traced to several countries.
Since 9/11, steps had been taken by the international community and the United Nations to choke terrorist financing, he said.
The official said Pakistan, as part of its war on terrorism, had frozen the assets and accounts of entities and individuals linked to terrorism in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
In this regard, Pakistan continued to work with other countries bilaterally and in the international/UN framework, he said.
AIR LINKS TALKS: Pakistan and India will hold technical-level talks on the revival of air links between the two countries on August 27 in Islamabad.
According to a foreign office spokesman, India has accepted the dates of August 27 and 28, proposed earlier by Pakistan, for the technical-level talks between the civil aviation authorities of the two countries for the revival of air links and related matters.
On July 30, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had proposed two sets of dates August 27-28 and September 3-4 for holding talks. India has accepted the first set of dates. —APP
