Regional ground under spotlight

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Aug 1: Irfan Mirza, PCB’s infrastructure general manager, has called for adequate precautionary measures at the Regional Academy at Rani Bagh Hyderabad to overcome the deteriorating and shabby condition of the ground.

It appears that no information was given by the project supervisor of the Regional Academy ground to media purposely because the ground is in very bad shape and reporters were likely to put queries to Irfan to this effect.

However, it was learnt that the PCB official visited the city in order to approve two more grounds — one each in Latifabad and city under PCB’s Infrastructure Development Programme.

Irfan visited Paretabad and Kali Mori colleges’ grounds as well. Accompanied by a Hyderabad MPA, Abdul Rehman Rajput, Irfan was reportedly happy to see both these grounds.

He asked the MPA to get him permission from the principals of both colleges and the same should be forwarded to PCB Chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia.

He has not visited another site for preparation of ground in Latifabad taluka.

The PCB official pointed out that he had asked DCA officials that more protective measures are needed to be taken to avoid salinity and water-logging in the ground.

He further said that there are three different options which could be used in checking the rising water-logging and salinity and added that the areas which were without grass have been marked and he has called for their photographs.

He disclosed that he would again visit the ground alongwith an expert to conduct a study how to bring the ground upto the mark.
