ISLAMABAD Aug 1: An ulema convention here on Thursday has decried the government’s considering of sending Pakistani troops to Iraq and strongly opposed the recognition of Israel.

The ulema convention, held under the aegis of Jamiat-i- Talaba Arabia, declared that the ulema would never accept intervention or restrictions on their institutions and asked the government to stop propaganda against the religious scholars otherwise they would not allow the government to function.

The speakers said the government was putting blame of terrorism and disruption on the ulema and the religious institutions to divert the public attention from its own failures.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Qari Fazl-i-Akbar, the general secretary of Jamiat Talaba Arabia Pakistan, Mian Mohammad Aslam, the MMA MNA, Maulana Abdul Aziz Hanif Nazim ala Markazi Jamiat Ahl-e- Hadith Pakistan, Maulana Abdur Rashid Ghazi and Maulana Ziaur Rahman Faoorqi.

The ulema expressed satisfaction over the strong unity in the ranks of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and said the religious institutions and ulema were its real strength.
