NTN duplication

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to link National Tax Number (NTN) master index with the National and Data Registration Authority (Nadra) to check issuance of more than one NTN to a taxpayer.

Official sources in the CBR said on Friday that duplication of NTN has been a major problem in the past and effective measures are being taken in collaboration with Nadra to correct the situation. According to the statistics, the CBR has issued around 1,572,473 NTNs to taxpayers up to June 30, 2003.

According to the officials, delivery counters are being established at all field offices throughout the country to minimize the dependence on the courier services. These counters would also be used for acceptance of application.

It was also under consideration to establish a sustainable institutional linkage between various organizations like Nadra, SECP and chambers of commerce and industries, added the officials.
