DHAKA, July 31: The members of the ruling BNP’s student wing launched hit-on-sight attacks on their opponents in the university on Thursday.

In an instant protest, the Bangladesh Chhatra League, AL’s student front, called a “non-stop students’ strike” in the university from Saturday. It also announced a series of demonstrations in the educational institutions across the country.

The Progressive Students Alliance (PSA), a combine of the left-leaning student organization, slated the violent attack and announced demonstrations on August 2 to protest the incident.

However, most of the frontline leaders of the AL student front, including its president, Liakat Shikder, suffered severe injures. At least 25 of the victims were admitted to different city clinics.

Meanwhile, the Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ), a component party of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s ruling coalition, has threatened a tough anti-government movement in case of the government’s failure to introduce Islamic laws.

“The government’s failure to introduce Islamic laws in the country would result in an all-out movement,” said the chairman of the IOJ.
