KARACHI: Rain relief centres

KARACHI, July 22: On the directive of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, District Coordination Officer Mir Hussain Ali visited Saddar and Jamshed towns to review arrangements regarding registration of public complaints during monsoon rains.

During the visit, the DCO expressed surprise over the absence of concerned Town Municipal Officers and other town officers from complaint centres, setup in the two towns.

He warned the TMOs of the two towns to ensure their presence during office hours. He described the performance of two centres as non-satisfactory, as no official from Water and Sanitation Department, KESC and the Town itself were present at the complaint centres.

The DCO asked the TMOs to make the functioning of their centres effective to save people from rain losses and to provide relief to the residents of the town.

Meanwhile, the DCO inspected the ongoing cleanliness work of storm water drains being carried out in coordination with the city government and town administrations.

He inspected the ongoing work of water drainage from Nursery to Mahmoodabad. He appreciated the concerned officials of water and sanitation department in this regard.

He was informed that the work was being hampered by the encroachments, which had been created with the extention of houses constructed on half a kilometre long green belt.

The DCO directed the Karachi Building Control Authority and Executive District Officer of Revenue to take legal action against the encroachers and remove the encroachments from the drain immediately.—APP
