KARACHI, July 20: Advisor to chief minister on health Noman Saigal has announced imposition of emergency in all government hospitals of the province.

Mr Saigal announced this owing to the fear of outbreak of different diseases and spread of epidemics following the widespread rains in Sindh.

While pointing at drastic spread of conjunctivitis (an eye infection) among the citizens, Mr Saigal said that in order to check its rapid growth, special arrangements had been made in all public hospitals, where eye specialists were providing relief to the masses.

Besides, needy patients were also being provided medicines free of cost and they are informed about symptoms of the disease and safety measures against the problem.

Taking cognizance of rising cases of snake bite in Thar areas of Sindh, he directed the provincial health secretary and medical superintendent to ensure immediate provision of medicines to mitigate sufferings of the victims.

Mr Saigal also suggested the masses to observe hygienic principles while eating anything outside their homes, as any carelessness on their part could lead to spread of diarrhoea, Hepatitis-A, typhoid and other epidemics. Besides, he said that the citizens should use boiled water and neat and clean eatables.

SADDAR TOWN: The Saddar Town has enforced an emergency to deal with post-rains scenario and removed all the damaged signboards and uprooted trees from major thoroughfares in its vicinity.

Besides, the town administration has dispatched mobile sewerage tanks to drain out rainwater from major roads and streets in all areas of the town including M A Jinnah Road, I I Chundrigar Road, Denso Hall, Boulton Market, Kharadar, Ranchore Lines, Ramswami, City Railway Colony, and Hijrat Colony.

A team of Saddar Town paid visits to these areas and directed the concerned staff to take emergency measures and provide relief to the inhabitants there.

Moreover, coordinated efforts have also been taken to restore power supply and remove damaged electricity cables from these areas.

KESC, W&SD criticized: The Sindh Democratic Alliance (SDA), expressing its grief and concern over the deaths in Karachi and interior of Sindh caused by the widespread rains, has demanded of the government to financially compensate all affected families.

This demand was made during the alliance meeting, chaired by SDA President Imtiaz Ahmad Sheikh. The meeting came hard on the performance of KESC and Water and Sanitation Department. They demanded that action should be taken against the high officials of KESC and W&SD for displaying irresponsible attitude.—PPI/APP
