Corruption case against former BD minister

By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, July 20: The Bureau of Anti-Corruption filed a case with the police against the home minister in former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s cabinet Mohammad Nasim, for owning for owning property “inconsistent with his income”, on Sunday.

The case cited concealment of his ownership of two houses in Dhaka and in his native Sirajganj.

Referring to the construction of the two houses, the bureau stated in the case that Mohammad Nasim, who was also the minister for housing and public works in the past Awami League government, earned BDTk 6,055,416 “illegally” as the amount does not match with the known sources of his income.

ARRESTED: Joint forces in a crackdown early on Sunday arrested 127 persons, 16 of them said to be “listed criminals”, in the south-western region officials said, indicating that the operation could spread countrywide to round up those on the run.

Home secretary Omar Faruk, who briefed newsmen at the ministry on Sunday afternoon, could not however say whether any arms and ammunition came onto the dragnet during the operation.

A police press release said on Sunday that the joint forces had recovered 18 rifle bullets.
