ISLAMABAD, July 18: Heads of four provincial legislature secretariats arrived here on Friday to participate in secretaries’ conference of legislative houses, which is being held at the Parliament House on Saturday.

The informal session of the secretaries conference was held here on Friday.

The conference has been convened by National Assembly Secretary Mehmood Saleem Mehmood, and will also be presided over by him. It will be the first formal meeting of the officials of various assemblies, which will be attended by Senate Secretary Shahid Iqbal, Balochistan Assembly Secretary Mr Mengal, NWFP Assembly Secretary Ahmad Nazir Khattak, Punjab Assembly Secretary Dr Najmul Hassan Najmee and Sindh Assembly Secretary Mr Bruiro.

Generally, the two top officials of the AJK Legislative Assembly, had regularly been invited to attend the speakers and secretaries conference, however, in today’s conference secretary, AJK Legislative Assembly, has not been invited. This marks a departure from the usual secretaries conferences, which prepares the ground for the formal meeting of the presiding officers of six legislative chambers of Pakistan, including the Senate.

The conference agenda is devoted to the need for augmenting research for helping lawmakers in their day to day debates, as well as to bring into focus the weaknesses and problems. —Jonaid Iqbal
