KARACHI, July 17: The Sindh government has approached the federal government for a revision in the deep-sea policy, it is learnt.
A fisheries department official confirmed that the matter for a revision or change in the deep-sea policy was discussed at a meeting held between Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Provincial Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Sardar Manzoor Ali Panwar here on Wednesday.
The source said during the meeting, the provincial minister called upon the prime minister to restrict the activity of deep-sea trawlers beyond 35-nautical miles as it was done in the past.
Under the existing deep-sea policy, the trawlers have been allowed to fish between 35-12 nautical miles from the shore.
The source claimed that the prime minister assured the minister that the proposal would be considered after the submission of a summary.
