KARACHI, July 15: The coordination committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement has once again demanded that work on the greater Thal canal project should be stopped forthwith and a round table conference of all the political parties of Sindh should be convened to listen to their reservations on the issue.
The meeting, which was addressed by its convener Dr Imran Farooq on telephone from London, recalled that the MQM had been instrumental in the adoption of unanimous resolutions against the greater Thal canal twice in the provincial assembly.
It was noted that no encouraging response had been received from the federal government in this regard so far.
The stand taken by the MQM coordination committee was in contrast to what the governor of Sindh had said while talking to newsmen, here on Saturday.
The governor had supported the demand of the people of Sindh to have due share of water. He had also termed “positive attitude of the prime minister, governor and chief minister of Punjab in this regard.”
