HYDERABAD, July 12: In order to bring reforms in the educational sector, a campaign for improving the standard of education and literacy rate has been launched by the district government, Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Education Sector Reform Assistance (ESRA).
The executive district officer (EDO), Community Develop-ment, Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi, said this while presiding over a meeting of the district literacy committee in his office at the Shahbaz Building here on Saturday.
As the chairman of the committee, he said that the government has planned to adopt public participatory approach in eradicating illiteracy and unemployment from the society, and added that it is only through education that we can achieve these goals.
They formulated a plan to bring reforms in the educational sector.
The meeting decided to conduct Taluka-wise door-to-door survey to collect data about the literacy rate and to identify causes responsible for the poor performance of educational institutions and school management and the unwillingness of parents in getting their children enrolled in schools.
It was decided that all government and private schools functioning in the district would be offered incentives to promote the cause of quality education.
The EDO (CDD) in consultation with participants constituted a sub-committee to prepare a feasibility report for increasing the capabilities of existing schools.
It was decided that technical education would be encouraged with the collaboration of local industrial associations so that unemployment could be eradicated from the society.
The meeting was largely attended by the representatives of the district government, education department, social welfare department and non-government organizations.
LLB: The principal, Government Sindh Law College, Hyderabad, announced on Saturday that the college administration had decided to give admissions to the next higher classes in July after the results of LLB Part-I and II for the year 2001-2002 were announced.
He, however, said that since there was no chance of the results being announced soon by the University of Sindh; therefore, the college would remain closed upto August 3.
He further announced that the classes for LLB students part- I, which were to be started from July 14, shall remain postponed upto August.
LAST DATE: The principal, Government College of Technology, Hyderabad, has informed that the last date for issuing and submitting diploma of Associate Engineer (morning/evening/double shift) programme admission forms for session 2003-2004 has been extended upto July 31.
MUET: The Mehran Univer-sity of Engineering and Techn-ology, Jamshoro, here on Saturday announced that the university would reopen after summer vacations on July 14.
CLASSES: The registrar, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, has announced that classes of MBBS, fourth year, 2003-2004 session, will commence from July 15.
