Second-hand machinery import sought

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 11: The chairman, Site Association of Industry, Haroon Farooki has urged the government to allow the local industrial units to import second-hand industrial boilers, power generators and electric motors as a part of complete plant and machinery for BMR.

In a letter sent to Federal Commerce Minister, Humayun Akhtar, SAI chief has urged the government to make import of the machinery as part of the new Trade Policy for 2003-2004.

These complete plants, include boilers, electric motors and power generators, are part of complete unit. If the boilers, electric motors and power generators are excluded from the plant in compliance with the current trade/import policy, the importer did not get any reduction in total price of the plant and equipment and has to arrange a compatible equipments on extremely high costs locally, he added.

He appealed to the concerned authorities to allow the local industrial units to import these main requirements of industrial units at the same import status and customs duties as the rest of the plant and equipment, provided they are imported as part of the complete plant/unit.
