KARACHI: Burst line floods area near Civic Centre

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 10: The 12-inch diameter pipeline passing through the locality behind the Civic Centre burst on Thursday causing flooding in the nearby lane and disruption in water supply to several blocks of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Water gushing out of the burst pipeline inundated the section of Sir Shah Mohammad Suleman Road near Mashriq Centre and a portion of the main University Road near the head office of the Gulshan Town administration. Commuters and pedestrians faced immense hardship due to the flooding.

Residents of the localities around the Civic Centre told Dawn that the submerged roads also caused traffic jams on both the main thoroughfares. Residents of Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s block 14 had to wade into knee-deep water which had accumulated near a building housing the city government’s revenue department.

Sources said that the bursting of the pipeline badly affected water supply to Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 and 17 was affected badly.

DEMO: Residents of New Karachi’s Godhra Camp on Thursday staged a demonstration in protest against persisting shortage of water in their locality.
