ISLAMABAD, July 9: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has allocated Rs8.4 million for the development of Diplomatic Enclave.

According to a document issued by the CDA, the amount would be utilized during the current fiscal.

An amount of Rs0.5 million would be spent to repair footpaths along constitutional avenue near French Embassy. The total cost of the project is Rs1.5 million, out of which Rs1 million has already been utilized.

A sum of Rs0.2 million would be spent on drainage system in front of Turkish Embassy and Rs0.38 million has been spent on the project against its total cost of Rs0.58 million.

The CDA has earmarked Rs0.8 million for the beautification and earth work in PM Staff Colony and a park, Rs0.103 million for a similar project near Ghanian and Malaysian embassies, Rs0.098 million for the beautification near Swiss, Burma and Australian Embassies, Rs0.186 million for similar works near Nigerian and Spanish Embassies.

A sum of Rs0.157 million would be utilised to repair sewage line from manhole No: 23 to 98, Rs0.182 million would be spent for improvement of sewage line from French Embassy to Dhokry Chowk and Rs0.425 million would be used to repair sewage trunk line from manhole No: 98 up to the US Embassy.

To repair sewage line at the President’s personal staff colony, Rs1.21 million would be spent.

An amount of Rs0.097 million would be utilized to raise existing manholes in he diplomatic enclave and Rs0.300 would be spent for the provision of street lights.

Meanwhile, a source told Dawn that a green area located between Noorpur Shahan village and diplomatic enclave was being included in the enclave.

However, there was no such provision in the master plan, the source said.

He said the diplomatic enclave was being extended to accommodate some 35 new and old foreign missions in the Capital.

It is being feared that the extension of diplomatic enclave will affect the security plan made to protect diplomats.
