ISLAMABAD, July 8: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has been asked to bring the Karachi Electricity Supply Company’s charges at par with those of the Water and Power Development Authority to eliminate discrimination between the consumers of both the government organizations.

During hearing of a petition filed by the KESC for determination of security deposit and system development charges, the interveners said the deposit was much higher than the potential default and the company should not be allowed to use it as a means of fund raising.

The KESC had sought permission to reduce its system development charges because the people were induced to steal electricity due to high charges.

In response to the arguments of the interveners, including the Association of Builders and Developers, the Liberal Forum and Mushtaq and Co, the petitioner argued that it had sought two-and-a-half month billing as security deposit from the future consumers and not from the existing ones.
