KARACHI: Appeal admitted

KARACHI, July 8: An anti-terrorism appellate bench of the Sindh High Court comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery admitted an appeal, filed by the state, for regular hearing.

The acquittal of two accused, Qasim Zaidi and Hasan Ali, by an anti- terrorism court (ATC) was challenged through the appeal.

According to the order reserved earlier and announced today (Tuesday), the bench also issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) of arrest of the accused.

According to prosecution, the accused fired upon workers of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, at Lakhani bus stop, in the jurisdiction of SITE police in year 2000. Two persons, Iqbal and Abdullah, had died in the incident, while several others sustained bullet injuries.

Another division bench of the SHC, comprising Justice Shabbir Ahmed and Justice Mohammed Sadiq Leghari, on Tuesday, dismissed an appeal filed by two convicts, Zafar and Fazal Ahmed. —APP
