QUETTA, July 7: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammed Yousuf has said the government would maintain its authority and writ at all cost.

“It would make all efforts for exposing the terrorists involved in the imambargah massacre,” he said in his television address on Monday evening.

He announced a cash reward of Rs two million for those providing information about the terrorists who died in the incident.

He also announced Rs one million each for providing information about the absconding accused Dawood Badini and Usman alias Saifullah Kurd.

He said his government would not bow down before the terrorists, and would take strict action against them according to the law.

“The culprits responsible for the terrorist act would be exposed, be they local or foreigners,” Jam Yousuf declared.

He said steps were being taken to improve law and order in the province. He sought co-operation from ulema of all shades in this behalf.

The CM said the government was fully alive to its responsibilities in respect of providing protection of life and property to the common man.

Referring to the terrorist strike, he admitted laxity and carelessness on the part of the police and the administration, but with no ill-intention.

He vowed to unveil the elements behind this incident, whether they be from within the country or outside. A severe action will be taken against them under the law, he said.

He appealed to political and religious parties, ulema and tribal elders to instruct their workers to keep a close eye on suspicious elements and fulfil their responsibilities by identifying them. All government agencies were working overtime to trace the real culprits, he added.

He said terrorist elements wanted to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the province through mass killings and by spreading fear and harassment. By doing so, they wanted to defame the country, stop the development process and discourage investment.

The government would not allow these elements to succeed in their nefarious designs, he assured.

He said the real killers had also died on the spot but efforts were on to trace their sponsors.

He referred to the stand taken by President Musharraf against religious extremism, and said: “We would continue action against terrorism in the light of his directives”.

“The provincial government has full support and co-operation of the president and the prime minister in curbing terrorism”, he maintained.

He lauded the co-operation of the Pakistan army and other law enforcement agencies in coping with the situation arising out of the terrorist strike.

CURFEW BREAK: The provincial capital remained calm during the 11-hour curfew relaxation on Monday as no untoward incident took place.

Most of the shops and business centres opened during the curfew interval, however, some markets on the Liaquat Road remained closed.

The people remained busy in their routine affairs from 7am to 6pm. The market were flooded with people.

All government departments opened after two days and the traffic remained normal.

However, all schools and colleges and the Balochistan University remained closed as the government has announced summer vacations from July 7 to 15.

The army and other law enforcement agencies continued patrolling during the curfew relaxation.
