HYDERABAD, July 7: The adviser to Sindh chief minister for home affairs, Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, has said that the study of law would have to be changed in conformity with the needs of the present times, and added that the introduction of short courses in different subjects was the need of the hour.
He said this during the meeting of the finance committee of three law colleges at the Sindh Law College here on Saturday.
He said with the passage of time many changes had taken place in the society and one has to go by the expediencies of these changes.
He said it has been decided that like other subjects, the syllabus of law would also be changed to meet the exigencies of time.
Mr Shaikh stressed the need for encouraging specialization in income tax, banking, labour and commercial laws.
He said it was necessary that the services of good lawyers and jurists were made available to the people in specialized fields.
He said the advise of experts of different subjects and organizations will also be sought for changing the syllabus of law.
Earlier, a meeting of the finance committee of the Sindh Law College and Jinnah Law College Hyderabad and Dadu Law College was held under the chairmanship of the convener of the committee and principal, Sindh Law College, Prof Ahmed Ali.
The meeting decided to send the budget of the law colleges to the Board of Governors with the recommendations of the committee.
Mr Shaikh attended the meeting as a member of the committee. It was also attended by the secretary, Law, Sindh, Syed Ghulam Nabi Shah.
A meeting of the Board of Governors will be held on July 12, which will be presided over by the chairman, Board of Governors, and the vice chancellor, Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.
Later, Aftab Ahmed Shaikh visited Qadam Gah Maula Ali and Anjuman Asna-Ashri Hazara Hussainabad and inspected security measures at these places.
He directed that the security at these places should be beefed up and senior police officers should be deployed to supervise the security arrangements.
