KARACHI, July 6: The city perked up when it received an average of 5.8 millimetres of rain on Sunday.
The Met Office told Dawn that by 5pm the city had received 4.2 millimetres of rain at the airport, 9 millimetres at Masroor base, 5 millimetres in North Karachi, 4.2 millimetres in Pakistan Quarters and 6.6 millimetres in Baldia.
It added that the maximum and minimum temperatures in the city had been 33 degrees Centigrade and 29.5 degrees Centigrade on Sunday. Humidity rose to 75 per cent.
Meanwhile, a Sindh government handout says that Sindh chief minister Sardar Mohammad Ali Khan Mahar has directed all the relevant departments to ensure that rain water is disposed of properly and without delay.
He also directed all the district coordination officers of the province to inspect the areas hit by rain.
He has also directed the health department to take preventive measures to ensure that medicines are available in hospitals to deal with the diseases that might break out after the rain.
TRAINS SCHEDULE: Passengers and their relatives faced severe hardships as the arrival and departure schedule of trains was badly affected due to rainfall.
A railway official said Karakoram Express, which was scheduled to arrive at 8am, reached the city ten hours late by 6pm. Those who had reached the station to receive their relatives and friends had to wait for long.
