SUKKUR, July 1: The people of Daharki town held a demonstration in front of the Mari Gas Field, Daharki, on Monday in protest against the termination of some of the workers of the company.

On this occasion, Jam Fateh Samejo and Sarwar Abbasi, both local labour leaders of Daharki town, threatened that if these workers were not reinstated, then protest rallies would be staged in Ghotki district.

Three workers of the company — Imdad Ali Bhayo, Aamir Bhayo and Qurban Ali Bughio — were terminated from service without any reason. So the workers became irritated and held a demonstration in front of the Mari Gas Field.

When some vehicles arrived there, the demonstrators lied down on the road. The Rangers arrested three people — Ghulam Ali, Imdad and Shamalo — and handed them over to the Daharki police. The workers have demanded that if the arrested persons are not released within 24 hours, then demonstrations would be held throughout the district against the Mari Gas Field.

When this correspondent contacted officials of the company, they said the terminated employees were not regular employees and disciplinary action had been taken against them, and added that the protest demonstration was unjustified.
