KARACHI, July 1: Four bodies, including that of a woman, were recovered from various spots in the sea on Tuesday.

The woman, who had drowned into the sea late on Saturday night, was found from an island, around four kilometres away from Korangi creek.

The woman was identified as Kiran, 23, resident of Baloch Colony.

Police said that two businessmen, Farrukh and Anjum along with two girls Sidra and Kiran, had hired a boat near Marine Club on Saturday night. They wanted to enjoy the night in the sea, Farrukh and Anjum told the police.

They said that Kiran was sitting on the deck of the boat and as the sea was rough, the violent currents swayed the boat and she lost her balance and fell into the sea. The captain of the boat dived into the sea, but could not rescue her.

They returned to the beach and informed the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), who informed the police about the incident, the police said.

“We have launched an extensive search for Kiran, who was believed to have drowned. Today (on Tuesday), we heard that she was floating on the water near Bundal island,” said a senior police official.

Rizwan Edhi claimed that he had informed the police about the body found at Bundal island. “The police did not reach by 4.00pm, we hired a boat and found the body at the island, which was half buried. We retrieved the body and took it to the limits of Darakhshan police.”

He said, “We again informed the police at 6.00pm and the police reached the spot to take the body by 8:50pm.”

Police said that it took them some time to find the place, where the body was placed by the Edhi Foundation. They said the body was partially decomposed and the girl wore a swimming costume. “The post-mortem examination will reveal as to whether the girl slipped off the boat or she was killed,” police added.

Meanwhile, three bodies were recovered by the fire brigade divers from the sea on Tuesday.

Mohammad Yousaf, 22, Shahzad, 18, and Haroon, 19, had drowned into the sea while swimming at Clifton beach on Sunday. They had come to the beach from Korangi for a picnic.

The body of Haroon was washed ashore at Ibrahim Hydri, while the bodies of Mohammad Yousaf and Shahzad were recovered from Clifton and Keamari.

KILLED: Unidentified persons stabbed a labourer, Abdul Majeed, 38, to death in Lyari late on Monday night.

Police said that his body was found from Kalakot area. The body was taken to a hospital for autopsy, after which it was sent to the victim’s native town in Abbotabad. Police said that Majeed used to work at a bakery.
