KARACHI, June 28: Governor Ishratul Ibad has ordered an inquiry into the causes of deaths in Landhi Town apparently from consuming contaminated water.

He said officials had been instructed to collect samples from different parts of the city so that similar incidents do not take place in future. The governor said this while talking to journalists soon after returning from the affected locality.

The inquiry committee would be headed by the Chief Secretary, Dr Mutawakkil Kazi.

Answering another question, the governor said he had ordered payment of Rs100,000 for each death.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Ali Mohammed Mahar has also taken a serious note of the supply of contaminated water which resulted in the death of several people in Landhi on Friday. He has also ordered an immediate inquiry into the matter.
