Govt departments owe Rs168m to Iesco: 141 defaulters’ supply disconnected

ISLAMABAD, June 26: The Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (Iesco) has launched campaign anew against defaulters and disconnected over a hundred lines of government and semi-government departments in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

These departments, whose lines were snapped for non-payment, owe more than Rs167.98 million to the Iesco with only Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Murree Rs144 million followed by Polyclinic Hospital having an arrears of Rs13.7 million.

The Iesco spokesman in a statement Thursday said that notices had also been issued to several other departments to pay their dues by Friday. He said that as part of its fresh campaign for recovery of the dues from defaulters over 141 connections were snapped till Thursday afternoon.

According to a spokesman for Iesco, a subsidiary company of Wapda, the power utility snapped 21 connections of Chief Commissioner, Islamabad, offices for defaulting on payment of Rs2,602,602, three connections of Education department for non-payment of Rs1,215,363; connection of PTCL exchange, E-8, for non-payment of Rs59,371; JEO Science for having an arrears of Rs6,20,339; four connections of Poly Clinic Hostel for defaulting on payment of Rs13,796,450 dues; Income Tax Building connection for non-payment of Rs62,225; line of FG Poly Technics Institute, Mera Bagwal, for having dues of Rs1,00,281; five connections of Local Government department for non-payment of Rs1,576,440, connection of Meteorological Department for not paying Rs537,743 dues; Survey of Pakistan for defaulting on payment of Rs78,014; connection of Pakistan Navy for not paying Rs1,10,433; connection of Sindh House for defaulting payment of Rs60,980; line of the office of Deputy Commissioner, Punjab, for non-payment of Rs34,816; Punjab Forest and Fisheries Department lines for non-payment of Rs41,015; Punjab Health Department for defaulting payment of Rs44,6351; Punjab Public Health Engineering lines for non-payment of Rs2,089,138; Punjab Arts Council Rs16907, Municipal Committee Murree Rs4,74,514, Cantonment Board Rawalpindi and Murree, having arrears Rs144 millions and four connections of health ministry having dues of Rs65,092.

Final notice has also been issued to Military Dairy Farm, Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), Rawalpindi General Hospital (RGH), Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, PWD, Poonch House, Poly Clinic Hospital and Islamabad Deputy Commissioner office to pay their outstanding dues by 10am on Friday, failing which power supply of the respective departments will be disconnected without further delay.
