RAWALPINDI, June 25: A woman suffered cardiac arrest and died when she saw her two children held hostage at gunpoint by robbers in her house in F-Block (New Town) on Wednesday, police said.
Asmat Irum, wife of Ikram-ur-Rehman, a customs official at Islamabad International Airport, was in her house when she saw two unidentified persons holding her two children hostage at gun point. One of them was carrying a dagger, while the other had a pistol.
Police investigation suggested that on seeing her daughter Hina Rehman, a class 10 student, and son Muzamil Rehman, a class 9 student, taken hostage, the woman started screaming. “While the woman was shouting, she suffered cardiac arrest that claimed her life,” investigating official Inspector Sohail Ijaz told this reporter.
The investigating officer said two persons entered Ikram-ur- Rehman’s house number F-882 around 4.15 pm and held his children hostage. They tied them up and dragged them into their mother’s bedroom. The moment Asmat Irum saw her children in the custody of the trespassers, she started screaming for help during which she suffered cardiac arrest. Upon seeing the woman in trouble, the trespassers fled away. Police claimed that nothing was found stolen.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she was declared dead by the doctors. Till the filing of this report, no arrest was made.
