William’s party gate-crashed

LONDON, June 22: Britain’s interior minister on Sunday ordered an urgent inquiry into a bizarre incident in which a man believed to be a budding stand-up comedian gate-crashed Prince William’s 21st birthday party.

As William, who is second in line to the British throne, was making a speech at Windsor castle, a man stumbled onto the stage and attempted to wrestle the microphone from him, according to reports. Home Secretary David Blunkett had ordered an “immediate report” into how the man slipped past the security cordon and joined the 300 invited guests, a Home Office spokeswoman said.

The intruder was later identified by his father as a 36-year-old stand-up comic and serial prankster called Aaron Barschak, who has previously disrupted other events, including a speech by London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone earlier this year.—AFP
