ISLAMABAD, June 18: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide $100 million for livestock sector and to mitigate drought effects in Balochistan.

This was stated by the ADB’s country director, Marshuk Ali Shah, during a meeting with Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind on Wednesday.

The ADB is undertaking an agro-processing project to save post harvesting losses. The ADB director discussed with the minister the ongoing as well as future projects to develop agriculture and livestock sector in the country. Mr Rind said the development of agriculture sector was essential to alleviate poverty from the country. Sixty per cent of the country’s population depended on this sector.

Mr Shah informed the minister that the ADB was conducting three major projects such as Barani Development Project in the Punjab, Balochistan Rural Development and Water Conservation Project and Sindh Coastal Area and Community Development Project at the cost of $350 million.
