Cash awards for medallists

ISLAMABAD, June 13: Pakistani medal winners at last year’s Commonwealth Games and the Asiad are to be given cash awards on Saturday.

Sports Minister Rais Munir Ahmed will give away the cash prizes to the players with the biggest award of Rs 600,000 going to weightlifter Muhammad Irfan.

He had won three silver medals at the Manchester Commonwealth Games while a cheque for Rs 500,000 would go to gold-winning boxer Haider Ali.

In rifle shooting, Irshad Ali would collect a cheque of Rs 200,000 for bagging a bronze in the individual and team event. The hockey team that also landed a bronze in Manchester would get Rs 100,000 each. Captain Muhammad Sarwar will collect the cheques on behalf of the squad.

In the Asian Games list, Mansoor Zaman will pick up a cheque for Rs 200,000 for clinching a silver while others to be awarded similar amounts will be cueists Saleh Muhammad, Muhammad Yousaf and Noween Pervani.

The kabaddi squad that captured a bronze will take home cheques for Rs 100,000 each while rower Muhammad Akram too would be presented the same amount for claiming a bronze.

RIFLE SHOOTING: Irshad Ali (individual and team event, bronze, Rs 200,000), Zahid Ali Khokhar (team, bronze, Rs 100,000)

HOCKEY (bronze, Rs 100,000 each): Ahmed Alam, Sohail Abbas, Zeeshan Ashraf, Muhammad Usman, Muhammad Saqlain, Waseem Ahmed, Muhammad Nadeem, Muhammad Sarwar, Kashif Jawad, Kamran Ashraf, Muhammad Shabbir, Muhammad Qasim, Tariq Imran, Ghazanfar Ali, Mudassar Ali Khan, M. Saleem Khalid.

BOXING: Haider Ali (gold, Rs 500,000)

WEIGHTLIFTING: Muhammad Irfan (three silvers, Rs 600,000).

ASIAN GAMES: Snooker-Saleh Muhammad (individual & team event bronze, Rs 100,000), Muhammad Yousaf (team event bronze, Rs 100,000), Noween Perwani (team event and double event bronze, Rs 200,000).

ROWING: Muhammad Akram (bronze, Rs 100,000) Kabaddi (bronze, Rs 100,000 each): Muhammad Mansha, Tariq Hussain, Zubair Ahmed, Badshah Gul, Muhammad Akram Snr, Mukhtar Ahmed, Muhammad Latif, Noor Akbar, Muhammad Akram Jnr, Muhammad Saleem

SQUASH: Mansoor Zaman (silver, Rs 200,000), Shahid Zaman (bronze, Rs 100,000).

BOXING (Muzaffar Iqbal (bronze, Rs 100,000).
