KARACHI: Minister’s car kills one; driver released on bail

KARACHI, June 13: Father of three children died in a road accident, when the official car of Sindh Minister for Planning and Development, Syed Sohaib Ahmed Bukhari, knocked him down on M A Jinnah Road on Friday.

The driver was released on bail shortly after the accident and no further action was taken against him. It could not be ascertained till filing of this report that the driver was officially appointed and he had a valid driving licence.

The official car was impounded for police record and released afterwards, the police sources said. A car, responsible for an accident, was usually impounded in other identical cases and released after court orders, the sources added.

Police said that the speeding Toyota Corolla (GS-7146) hit Amir Ali Affandi, 40, riding motorcycle (KAN-0663) on M A Jinnah Road near Nishat Cinema. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said that the victim was a cable operator and a resident of Neelam Colony.

An unidentified man was killed in a hit and run accident in Korangi Industrial Area on Friday. The body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem.
