KARACHI, June 12: Provincial leadership of the PML-Q has deplored killing of its frontline leader Abdul Raziq Khan and has expressed no-confidence in the performance of the law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order in the city.

Addressing a news conference at Muslim League House on Thursday, Capt Haleem Siddiqui, General Secretary of the PML-Q, Sindh chapter, demanded immediate arrest of the terrorist who killed Raziq Khan.

Capt Haleem Siddiqui termed the killing a conspiracy against the party and maintained that the incident was reflective of the failure of the measures to provide protection to the people.

He regretted that in presence of a PML-Q chief minister, theparty leaders and activists were being subjected to discriminatory policy. The worst example of that was illegal detention of the PML-Q’s provincial vice president Badar Iqbal for four months, arrest of a local office-bearer Sajid Khan under MPO and withdrawal of police guard provided to some of the Muslim Leaguers.

He demanded that in order to ensure protection to every citizen, Karachi police be completely purged of those elements who take the law into their own hands and become tool in the hands of vested interests.

He pointed out that discriminatory attitude of the local administration had generated resentment in the ranks of the party. He demanded punitive action against those who were responsible for such acts, including killing of Raziq Khan.

Provincial minister for Revenue Altaf Unnar threatened to resign if the Karachi police were not purged. He was critical of the DIG Karachi and CCPO who, he alleged, were behaving in such a way as if they were not under the provincial government.

Mr Siddiqui said that urban-rural divide was deliberately being sharpened and warned this was dangerous for the province and the country.

Deploring ‘victimization’ of PML-Q activists, he said that it reminded of the action taken by the PPP government against PML activists.

He declared that future course of action would be decided in a condolence meeting to be held on June 15.

Speaking on the occasion, provincial vice president of the party Altaf Awan alleged that chief minister’s adviser Ghulam Rasool Unnar and others were conspiring against the PML-Q from the CM House.
