KARACHI, June 12: Governor Ishratul Ibad has stressed the need for new and big buses so as to provide comfortable transport facilities to the citizens of Karachi. He was presiding over a high level meeting at the Governor House which was held to discuss transport affairs.
He directed the officials that facilities be provided to local organizations willing to manufacture and operate buses. He was of the view that such facilities would help resolve public transport problem in the city besides creating employment opportunities for the local people.
The governor also issued directives for the formulation and implementation of a transparent policy to activate the non-functional bus terminuses and handing them over to private transport operators. He also emphasized on adopting a clear policy on vehicle fitness.
MEDICAL EDUCATION: Governor Ishratul Ibad on Thursday expressed the determination to make medical education exemplary in the province and pledged that all possible measures would be taken for the purpose.
Talking to an eight-member delegation of Pakistan Medical Association, led by Dr Tipu Sultan, the governor said that the country’s credibility on international level in medical sector would be maintained. He declared that the government would not succumb to any pressure no would it compromise on it.
Dr Ibad assured the delegation that admissions in medical colleges would be held on merit only as laid down in the relevant rules and regulations. No forgery or admissions through back door would be tolerated, he added.
The meeting was informed that the process of scrutiny of admissions over the past five years in all medical collages of the province had been initiated. The governor directed that if any forgery or irregularity was detected at any level, the admission be cancelled and the culprits be brought to justice.
He said that it was one of the top priorities of the government to work for an improvement in the standard of medical education.
Principal Secretary Brig (r) Akhtar Zamin, Health Secretary Ashique Hussain Memon, Additional Secretary Dr Iqbal Daud Pota and other senior officials were present on the occasion.—PPI
