KARACHI: Raziq Khan’s murder widely condemned

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 11: Leaders of different political parties have condemned the murder of former deputy speaker of Sindh Assembly, Abdul Raziq Khan.

The PML(Q) termed it a conspiracy to destablise the Mahar government in the province. The party leaders hoped that culprits would soon be brought to book.

The PML(Q) leaders, including Ghulam Rasool Unnar, who is also political advisor to the chief minister, and K S Mujahid Baloch addressing a press conference said that the country had been a victim of terrorism for the last many years. Whenever the provincial government had moved on the road to success, anti- state elements become active to destablise the system and the murder of Raziq Khan was part of the same conspiracy.

Responding to the questions, Mujahid Baloch demanded of the government to set up a judicial commission to expose the killers of the PML leader.

They denied the possibility of enmity behind the killing, saying that he was a sincere and soft spoken leader. “Involvement of RAW’s agents could not be ruled out,” he added.

Earlier, Mr Unnar said murder was an act of target killing by terrorists and no political designs could be attributed behind it.

To another question, he said that chief minister had shortened his visit to Sukkur and rushed back to Karachi.

The PML(Q) Deputy Coordinator, Karachi, Aleem Adil Shaikh condemned the murder and urged the government to use all resources at its disposal to arrest the killers. He also announced to suspend all PML(Q) activities for three days to mourn the death.

The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s MNAs, including Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Abdul Sattar Afghani, Muhammad Laeeq Khan, MPAs Nasrullah Khan Shaji, Yunus Barai, Hameeduallah Khan and others also condemned the murder. They said that the law and order situation in the city could be assessed from the killing of a leader of the ruling party in the daylight.

They said that the government had failed to maintain law and order and provide protection to life and property to people. Offering condolence to the bereaved family, they urged the government to arrest the killers and give them exemplary punishment.

The chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, said that if the members of the ruling party were not safe, who else could be secured. He said that it was a big challenge for the prime minister and PML(Q) chief, Chaudhry Shujaat.

Prominent leader Mairaj Muhammad Khan termed it a tragedy that Raziq became the victim of violence. Offering condolence to the bereaved family, he demanded of the government to take all necessary measures to arrest the killers.

The vice-president of PML(N), Ejaz Shafi said that the country was being pushed swiftly towards destruction, as killings and plundering had become order of the day. He said that the protectors of people were being killed and the DIG of a province also became victim of terrorism, but the rulers were harping the tune of peace and law and order.

The chief of Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Afaq Ahmad termed the killing a continuity of assassination of Hakeem Muhammad Said, Zohair Akram Nadeem, and Raees Amrohvi, which were going on in Karachi from the last many years. He said that when “terrorists” had come to power, they used to eliminate their opponents in the same manner.

“Had the killers of Hakim Muhammad Said and Zohair Akram Nadeem had been given the due punishment, the terrorists had to think twice before committing crime. If murderers of peace, become colleagues of police and Rangers, darkness would further spread,” he pointed out.

Secretary General of PML(Q), Sindh, Capt (Retd) Haleem Siddiqui, termed it a target killing to create fear among politicians of other parties. It was unfortunate that some elements did not like to see gentlemen in politics and if they were not checked, there could be no prosperity not only in Karachi but also in the entire country. He accused police of -# indulging in dacoities and theft instead of providing protection to people from terrorists.

In his statement, the chief minister strongly condemned the assassination of Abdul Raziq Khan, who was shot dead by some unidentified motorcyclists in New Challi area on Wednesday, adds APP.

Describing his assassination as a savage action, the chief minister directed the administration and law enforcers to ensure early arrest of culprits and bring them before the justice.

He said that the matter would be fully investigated and directed police to take all steps for the security of life and property of the law abiding citizens of the province.

In their condolence message, the PML-Q leader of district central, Javed Mian; the PTCL Secretary General of PML-Q Labour Wing, Javed Imran Khan; Babe Mazdoor Haji Muhammad Younus prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace and courage and patience be granted to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, adds PPI.

The deputy parliamentary leader of MMA in Sindh Assembly, Nasrullah Shajee expressed the apprehension that situation of Karachi would further deteriorate, if terrorist elements were given free hand.

LAWYERS’ BOYCOTT: The Karachi Bar Association has announced that the legal fraternity would boycott the court proceedings on Thursday as a mark of protest over the killing of Abdul Raziq Khan.

According to the KBA, the lawyers will not attend the court proceedings and a meeting of the associations’ general body will be held on the premises of the City Courts on Thursday. The lawyers will also sport black bands.

Sathi Ishaq, secretary general of the KBA, condemned the incident and demanded an immediate resignation of the government.
